Puyravault is on the edge of the Baie de L'Aiguillion, close to the Ile
de Ré. Trips can be organised to the bird reserve of St Denis de Peyre
where it is possible to see white storks, the Baie de L'Aiguillion (les
mizottes) and Ile de Ré . There is a very high concentration of birds of pray due to the thousands of miles of canals and ditches and pastureland. In the garden I have seen black redstart, hoopoe etc.Barn owls fly over our garden almost every evening.

		Baie D'Aiguillon The Baie D'Aiguillon (Aiguillon Bay) is located north of La Rochelle on France's west coast and is one of the most important wetlands in western Europe. The bay is a large intertidal inlet which offers excellent feeding grounds for shorebirds. Behind the bay are extensive marshes with intersecting dykes. The area is very good during passage with autumn bringing in up to a quarter of a million waders, many of which subsequently over-winter. Several duck species also winter in the area. Summer species include: Little Bittern, Night and Purple Herons, Little Egret, Garganey, Honey Buzzard, Black Kite, Short-toed Eagle, Marsh and Montague's Harriers, Little Crake, Corncrake, Black-winged Stilt, Bluethroat and Melodious Warbler. Winter species include: Greylag and Brent Goose, Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler, Marsh and Hen Harriers, Merlin, Peregrine, Avocet, Knot, Black-tailed and Bar-tailed Godwits, Spotted Redshank and Short-eared Owl. Near to one of the dykes over wintering bluethroats have been seen in October and November. Passage species include: Spoonbill, Whimbrel, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper and Greenshank.
