French markets are wonderful places. Full of colour and packed with fresh produce – usually produced locally, to tempt your tastebuds.

La Rochelles 19th century market hall is open Monday to Saturday mornings, with a larger street market every Saturday. There are stalls of beautiful fresh vegetables, cheeses, olives, fresh fish and seafood, cakes and bread. On Sundays, La Pallice, just to the north of La Rochelle and near to the bridge leading to the Ile de Ré, hosts an enormous market selling both food , clothes, jewellery and anything else you might or might not expect.

Our local town, Luçon, has a market every Wednesday and Saturday morning where during the summer you probably won’t be able to resist the wonderful melons which are grown here on the marais.

We have a list here at ‘Belle Vue’, so that any day of the week that you might like to visit a market, we will be able to find you one.
