It is described as an ecological and historical theme park, but in truth, being the only event of it’s kind, it really needs to be seen to be appreciated. It is actually in two parts. During the day, ‘Le Grande Parcours’ is the main park, set in 100 acres of French countryside. Visitors are free to roam amongst the rose gardens and arboretum, the 18th century village, the mediaeval city and first century fort.. But there is also a timetable of ‘shows’, which take place several times a day.

The Gallo-Roman amphitheatre, seating 6000 visitors, presents chariot races, gladiator fights and animal displays depicting the roman presence in the Vendee, 2000 years ago. The Bataille du Donjon depicts a battle to protect an early Middle Ages Keep. Horsemen and women show their skills in dressage and jousting, and giant mediaeval weapons spew huge flames accross the battlefield The Falconry display claims to be the best in europe, and it certainly should not be missed. The birds descend from the sky to music, and begin with small Perigrins right up to....well I think you should see that for yourself! I could go on, but if you do want more information then visit www.puydufou.com In the evening,
on summer weekends only, the Cinescenie is open.
